The University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad held its annual graduation ceremony on Friday, October 26, 2018. While the event itself is a staple in the academic calendar, this particular ceremony was marked by a moment of exceptional pride—not just for the university, but for Grenada.
Among the sea of graduates, Marline Baptiste, a humble and brilliant student from Loretto, Gouyave, St. John, stood tall and shone the brightest. Her name is still echoing through the halls of academia for her extraordinary performance and historic achievement at UWI.
Marline Baptiste graduated with First-Class Honours in Accounting Special, an impressive feat on its own. But her academic excellence didn’t stop there.
She was the recipient of several prestigious awards, including:
🏆 ACCA & ICATT Award for Most Outstanding Student – Accounting Special, Graduating Class of 2018
🏆 Deloitte & Touche Trinidad & Tobago Award for Most Outstanding Student in Accounting 2017/2018
🏆 Faculty of Social Sciences Award for First-Class Honours
These accolades were presented to her at UWI’s annual “Evening of Excellence”, held just days before the graduation ceremony. It was a night where top-performing students were celebrated, and Marline was indisputably among the elite.
Her achievements are especially significant considering the diversity and competitiveness of her graduating class, which included students from across the Caribbean and around the world.

Marline’s academic journey at UWI was nothing short of exceptional. From her first year, she consistently earned top grades, with over 90% of her courses marked with an A grade. Her remarkable GPA earned her a full scholarship, covering tuition, accommodation, books, and meals, a rare honor reserved for students with truly outstanding academic records.
Despite receiving multiple lucrative job offers from major firms such as KPMG and Ernst & Young in Trinidad, Marline made the heartfelt decision to return home to Grenada—choosing to contribute her talents and passion to the development of her homeland.
Today, Marline Baptiste is a key part of the team at JD Consulting, one of Grenada’s premier accounting and management consulting firms. As an Assurance Partner, she plays a pivotal role in delivering high-level financial and advisory services across sectors such as construction, tourism, state enterprises, and consumer services.

At JD Consulting, we are committed to supporting the growth and sustainability of Grenada’s business community. On May 22, 2025, our Managing Partner, Johnson Dion, facilitated a Financial Recordkeeping Seminar hosted by Grenada Co-operative Bank Limited at Coyaba Beach Resort. The seminar marked the first in a series of workshops aimed at equipping micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with the tools to better manage their finances and strengthen their operations.
During the session, Mr. Dion emphasized the importance of proper recordkeeping and the preparation of timely financial reports. These practices are not only essential for regulatory compliance but also critical for informed decision-making, resource allocation, and long-term business sustainability.
Participants—representing diverse sectors such as trucking, construction, agriculture, auto sales, pharmaceuticals, pest control, and tourism—gained practical strategies to improve their financial management and planning.
Attendees left the seminar with actionable insights to apply directly in their businesses.
Kesmond Boatswain, owner of Verdant Auto and B’s Equipment Rental and Sales, remarked: “We are able to take home a lot of information that will aid us in being better businessmen and businesswomen.”
Paris Fraser, owner of Kloud Rivere, added: “This session impacted my intentions for the future growth of my business. I learned how I can use financial records to plan, not only for me, but also for my stakeholders, and to see where I can tap into additional resources.”

Through collaborations like this with Co-op Bank, JD Consulting continues to deliver on its mission to provide advisory support that helps businesses thrive. By combining technical expertise in accounting, taxation, and compliance with practical training, we empower MSMEs to build stronger foundations and pursue sustainable growth.
As Grenada’s business landscape evolves, JD Consulting remains a trusted partner for entrepreneurs and organizations seeking to enhance their financial management and achieve long-term success.
